YOUR SKIN NEEDS A SEASONAL WARDROBE TOO
Would you wear a sleeveless shirt or shorts in the dead of winter??
No April what are you nuts???!!
So why use the same skin care routine that you used in the summer?!
The seasons sneak up on our skin and we don’t notice until the signs show up on our skin. Be ahead of the game and be prepared with a regimen for each season. It doesn’t have to be entirely different, but maybe switch up your cleanser, moisturizer, add in a serum, mask, oil, etc.
Skin is THE largest organ on our body! It protects us from the sun, the cold, the environment, and the list goes on and on!! It’s takes a beating year after year! Let’s treat it with care because it’s what people see everyday and we only get one. DON’T WAIT until you see signs of aging to take action. You will then expect immediate results and or go to extreme measures to get desired results. PREVENTION IS KEY!!
OK let’s start with your BODY!
My first tip is EXFOLIATION
You can do this in many ways and they won’t add too much time to your daily routine.
Dry brushing…what’s that?? Click this linkto find out!! This is expecially good for expecting mamas to prevent stretch marks! It increases collagen and helps with product penetration.
This will take you less than two minutes before your shower! Leave the dry brush in plain site so that you remember to do this a few times a week.
Scrubs…keep a scrub of choice in the shower. Preferrably an environmentally safe one.
I really prefer sugar scrubs or salt scrubs like this one (https://acaruso.myrandf.com/Shop/Product/ENPS125) because they just melt into the skin and typically break down into an oil that also hydrates the skin. My tip is to pick a scent you love because you will look forward to using it daily. This also takes two seconds in the shower. So no excuses people! ;) If I can do it, you can!
They also make hand mitts that you can slip on to exfoliate with! You can put your favorite body wash ( hydrating one of course) and kill two birds with one stone! Wash and exfoliate..one step! ;) Easy peasy! Those are for all of you reading this saying you don’t have time ;)
I have plenty more options..but I think I’ll stop there for now.
One major tip that will absolutely change your life is hydrating while your skin is still damp! Don’t even pick up your towel right out of the shower. Grab your choice of moisturizer and it will also do half the job of drying you off! ;) WHY YOU ASK??
This will improve product penetration. The skin being damp will just suck in anything you apply. When the skin is dry you run the risk of having it just sit on the skin.
Leave your choice of moisturizer in the shower for quick use! Out of sight out of mind. Also pick one you absolutely love!
My FAVORITE thing to use especially in the winter is oil to hydrate my skin.
I keep it in my shower and before I dry off I apply it quickly, and it wicks away a lot of the water and then I pat myself dry.
Won’t I be oily and ruin my clothes you ask??? NO, As long as you don’t get crazy and apply too much of course. If the skin is damp, it will just soak in the oil and leave the skin hydrated and not oily. When you pat dry, you will take off the excess.
In the winter, I use oil and I also hydrate the extra dry areas with my favorite cream or moisturizer. My lefs, arms, elbows, knees, and anything else that feels extra dry or itchy throughout the day.
Now what kind of oils and moisturizers do I recommend??
Coconut oil (store brand, nothing super expensive) in the shower it gets warmed up and is easy to just dig your hand in and rub all over quickly.
Jojoba oil..this is the closest oil to our natural oil in our skin. It mimics our sebum, because of the size of the molecule, so it will be accepted into the skin super fast and effectively.
Then there are many blends of oils, but these bases are nice. Whether it contains. Lavender, rosehip oil, marjoram, etc etc. Just pick one with great properties, natural, a pleasant scent, and make sure it is not filled with mineral oil or anything questionable. You can always ask me if you are unsure J
These are some of my favorite
Neutrogena sesame oil
Tummy Rub oil mama mia
Just be Skin care
Mullein and Sparrow
I can think of so many many more if for some reason none of these float your boat. I am obsessed with oils as you can see!!!! Super healing!
When it comes to moisturizers..there are so many kinds out there!!!!! Pick a consistency that you like and that you are going to apply everyday..realistically! ;)
Butters, balm , creams, gels, and lotions . Your butters, balmsand creams are going to be heavier protection and more for winter.
Gels and lotions are going to be great for summer and easy to spread and soak into the skin. I recommend an oil and then apply a butter or cream in winter on drier areas. If you aren’t super dry you can apply just an oil or an oil and a cream. Up to you
Stay tuned on Monday for WINTERIZING YOUR FACE :)
