This is a topic near and dear to my heart, so hang in there with the longer post today!! Pretty please :)
This article below explains ACNE and why hydrating is extremely important in the healing process!!!! This is an extension of yesterday's topic as well because dehydration can lead to acne and irritation.
For those of you who don't know, acne is something that I personally suffered with for 10+ years! It was heartbreaking, frustrating, and killed my self esteem! So I speak not only from an esthetician's perspective, but from a personal struggle!
When I first started to get acne in my late teens, early 20s, I did what everyone does....absolutely ANYTHING to dry it out!!!!!! I also picked (that's a whole separate article 🙄) and all the other no no's that just made it spread and so much worse!!!!!
Let me give you the analogy that I tell my acneic clients. If you have a cut or a closed wound on your skin, would you put witch hazel, rubbing alcohol, sea breeze, or any of the other crazy things I hear people use on it to help it to dry out and heal?!! Ouch NO! (A bit extreme, I know, but it's really not far off) A pimple is an infection under the skin, and it is a sign of inflammation in the body. Yes it does need to be dried out, but it also needs the moisture and natural oils to heal itself!! You are prolonging the healing process by taking away it's natural defense mechanism!! When the skin is completely stripped of it's acid mantle (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acid_mantle) it doesn't have a natural balance of good and bad bacteria. This will make it very susceptible to infection and you will see more and more breakouts!!!
Once I started to BE NICE to my skin, I saw progress!!!! Don't get me wrong, you do need topical solutions, and those may dry you out, BUT, you need something healing and hydrating to help repair your skin! Like anything in life, It's all about finding a healthy balance! Depending on the degree of your acne...
Getting regular facials will help to get out the congestion in your skin before it becomes inflamed. Also a balanced skin care regimen is extremely important. If you get facials, but go home and use the wrong products, it's a waste of time and money! They go hand in hand, just like working out and eating healthy!!
If you are suffering from acne..I'm your girl!! Reach out!!! I can help you
(Disclaimer..I don't agree with last paragraph of this article where it explains that water is hydrating to the skin!! Internally...yes, externally it can be drying! stay tuned for my explanation ;) :)
